Has anyone hired an old boss to their team as an IC? What was your experience like and were there any issues with work dynamics or issues with authority and overshadowing when hiring someone with so much more experience?

Oh boy this sounds interesting lol. I've never done that and don't really think I'll ever be put in that situation but I guess in this job market anything is possible. I'm sure there would be some growing pains for your former boss to now be working under you, but if you're both reasonable humble people I don't see why it wouldn't work out just fine

As a former SR Mng looking for an IC role, give the guy a chance. If he wants to be an IC now, he’s probably on the down hill swing of his career and just wants to help your team be succesful.

like

I know some people where this happened. The one who originally hired the other wanted to step down and be an IC and they already knew each other/got along very well. So from my observations, it seemed to work out.

This is completely a case by case matter though. Think about this person’s personality considerably before making a decision. If the job was a long time ago, does it really matter? It was far in the past.

Lets change from old boss to people with loads of experience, that are coming now to market cheaper.

Id focus on their growth mentality towards others; ie even as IC experience matters a lot and can have fantastic impact.

Beware of team dynamics and jealousy too.

But 10y is a lifetime, meaning some more recent data is needed.

Also, that if troubles arise, you’re the one that hired him, so id take the decision collegially as much as possible.

End of day, if all is shiny its important to hire experience, the next 2-3y it will matter a lot.

But experience that is mentally flexible, theres a lot of change and uncertainty going on.

Strangely, a lot of people with experience seem to have crystallised.

Theres many hints one can find to understand more recent ways of work; but above all coachability, internal and external.

Yes, roles and expectations have to be clear, but if everybody is a grown up, and is open to feedback, it's worked out well for me.

That depends on the relationship you have and if the teacher is willing to be a student. Otherwise end the relationship now before its too late and costly.

My boss is always making last minute changes to my schedule. Adding shifts or asking me to cover for other people. Any advice on how to handle this? I want to be a team player but the last minute changes stress me out.

As I'm moving to a new role in a small company, I have a doubt about my salary structure like the Basic salary part is only 20,000 while my take home is 62k after all deductions.

I'm concerned because the leave encashment & other things totally depends on the basic salary.

Are there not any rules for the Basic salary to be at a certain % of CTC or it depends totally on the company?

Also PF deductions they are offering only 1800 p.m but considering 20000 basic it should be 12% of 20000 right?

So, recently got put on a PIP after six months at my new job., two days after I told my boss and HR I recently learned I have a cognitive disability caused by an illness. The PIP was mostly because I forgot some deadlines, but also they said I need to be more professional in emails (even though others use zero punctuation and a lot of emojis. To clients.) and simultaneously ask more questions and ask fewer questions. Should I just assume this is unattainable and look for a new job again?
