That's why you don't rely on Glassdoor or LinkedIn for salary information.
Yeah managers and directors at my company are always hush hush because there is so much range within the same role, which I absolutely hate. I mean how do I know if I'm fairly compensated if I don't live in a state that force HR to disclose a salary range?
I suspect it’s not sinister, so much as just they have old information there.
Salaries has risen 20%+ last few years (just to keep up with inflation) if those site don’t purge data older than 12 months it isn’t going to be accurate.
Salaries rose due to competition for talent, not inflation.
Yes!! And not just a little lower, significantly lower. I’m talking like ~10k
I actually just contacted Glassdoor because I noticed that my submitted salary for my old job was wildly inaccurate - on the high side!
I submitted the only salary info that's on Glassdoor for the company, and they showed the compensation as being over double what I specified. More specifically, I said I made $70k, and GD shows $160k!!
Wow. Now that is a huge disparity
Yes! But I was wondering if the market had shifted. LinkedIn has them lower also.
That’s because these sites lean towards the corporations paying them to post their ads that stay on their sites continuously because of the toxic management and the revolving door. Biggest complaint from employers is they can’t find no one to work but the problem is they can’t find anyone to put up with their narcissistic bipolar behaviors. Think instead of major universities drilling into students heads that everyone around them has mental issues that maybe they deal with theirs first
I’ve noticed as well. Glassdoor seems to be going through a constant revamping of their app in general though. It’s so unreliable and many times the app crashes. When I saw the salary range drop slightly for my title but saw the range shift slightly (increase) on my old title I knew something has got to be wrong. I got retitled a year ago and my new title’s salary band is a little bit higher than the old title; this is how boss explained it to me. So why is Glassdoor showing the opposite?
I have noticed that the positions salary posted is actually HIGHER then what the company is giving... I applied for positions around my experience and 90% of them low balled offers
Same, my company has it listed drastically higher than what myself and my CW partner are paid.
Yes, salaries are dropping all over and it’s DISGUSTING!
Beats indeed, Indeed is typically about 10k too high in their estimated salaries
I was wondering the same.
Bumped into this on my feed, hey around how much lower of salary in percentage on GD than your industry average would you estimate
Is it because we’re in London and provincial salaries are lower ?
I learned from fishbowl that there's obviously an issue going on with glassdoor salaries on the website, but that the app is fine. I use the app since I learned it and and so far hasn't seen anything drastically off salary-wise. Give the app a try.

I find them very accurate. You need to narrow down by your specific location and roles at same or similar companies. Also look at detailed breakdown which typically includes bonus and stock and commission.
At my company, the salaries shown on glassdoor are actually way higher than they really are.
Yes, I interviewed with one employer and based on glassdoor salary reviews, I was expecting something much smaller. However, they offered me almost 30k more than what I was expecting. I was pleasantly surprised. I ignore those reviews; they are not accurate.
Could have to do with how they average the salaries in the industry to come up with their guess. But my suspicion (and this is all it is) is that this is one of the leverages they have to get companies to pay for the subscription.
As a former VP of HR, I have usually seen the estimated salary to be lower than what my company was paying. And -quite naturally- this triggered me, so I wanted to shout out to the world "No, that's not what we're paying!", fearing that this would discourage candidates. And the only way to do that is -you guessed it right- by purchasing a subscription.
I would love to actually put up reviews with past salaries but I have been hounded by a former leader of a company after doing it in the past unfortunately
Yes yes. I am glad you brought this question up.
Noticed on LinkedIn, Glassdoor and Indeed a good 5-10k lower than 4 months ago.
