Has anyone pursued PMP certification while they were at Consultant/Senior Consultant level? How was your experience prepping for it & was the cert beneficial at your level?

Yup. It’s a great program IMO. It’s a very hard test.

I used “Head First PMP” to study for it, and spend about 4 months 30-60 min every evening. Passed the first time.

KPMG let me expense everything and gave me a $1k bonus for the cert.

The best part about the PMP program is having a clear standard language to use. In practice, you will only cherry pick parts of the program on client engagements that aren’t major, established, multi year manufacturing or software development.

I found it to be a great way to organize how i think about the skills though.

I still don’t have ANY certification. I refuse to get any.

The PMP is only a certificate, not exactly training. You're supposed to be a functioning PM first. That being said, knowing the framework it is based on can help in real world applications.

It is outside the norm to get a bonus or any other compensation for it though, aside from having it paid for.

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Any recommendations on getting into wine? I love other specialty beverages (3rd wave coffee, craft beer), but struggle to “figure out” wine.

The ability to get involved with local beer and coffee producers has been a huge factor for me, so I’m guessing the comparative lack of local wine producers has contributed to me struggling to understand more of the process, culture, tasting notes, etc.

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through.
