If you are a manager/leader in that team, then do consider honesty and transparency. Mental health affects us all and the subject doesn’t need to be avoided. In fact there’s a lot to be said about being open about it. I’m sure your team would appreciate you even more for it. End of the day though it’s about what you feel most comfortable saying/doing.
That huge pile of work is ALWAYS going to be there. Take care of your mental health.
I don’t think you’re ever obligated to say why you’re taking PTO. That said, you have to anticipate work to be on your plate when you come back.
I just did take 8 days. It was the best thing I could have done because 1. I put myself before a company that doesn’t care about me and 2. Because I truly did get peace of mind and feel much better.
Go for it. It will be worth it if you make good use of that time.
Good on you for taking a break! I'd be honest with the team, and also tell them to keep me in cc only if I really need to know something.. else, one of my team members can catch me up on a 30 mins call when I return.
I do this proactively for my boss, because I know he will keep checking his inbox everyday otherwise.
I had to resign for a mental health break and it took me 4 months to find something new when I was ready to hit the market again… so do yourself a favor and take that week!
I asked about taking a leave of absence for just such a thing and it did t really seem plausible. I thought FML would cover but I couldn’t ever find someone to assist with making it possible.
I do this often for staycations! You should take time off when you need 🤗 when you're burnt out, you're not going to be as productive and efficient. Take care of you!
