Kpmg has a program that pays you for a few months to take FAR and REG
That seems like a great program and I hope more firms implement similar policies. I took a break between jobs to get through two exams before starting in PA, but that’s not financially feasible for everyone and getting paid to study would help a lot of people. Now I’m just trying to figure out how to get through the last two while working!
PwC will give you 40 hours a year for cpa prep, you have your normal pto, and you can also take a 20/20 leave of absence type thing where you get 20% of your salary and only work 8 hours a week.
You can literally take three weeks of pto if you wanted to to because of unlimited pto to study
My bad thought you were at EY
You make the time if you want to! Many persons have done it while working, with kids, in busy season while pregnant and taking care of ailing parents.
Pro
unrelated but how does the firm benefit from having more licensed employees? i never understood why they cared much, but im glad they do since it benefits me to be more marketable for an exit, but it's not like i'll suddenly perform better work at the firm
1. It’s a public account firm it’s nice to have certified public accountants
2. You have to be one to make manager (used to be senior)
3. Evidences work ethic and expertise (however fleeting) in the areas we work in
4. Adds credibility to the team in the clients eyes, especially when a 24 year old is asking about stuff at least they have a CPA.
That policy seems antiquated. Perhaps you can make a business case that shows them their firm benefits behind industry standards, retaining your level is key, and you’ll be more productive when you’re able to focus 100% on work.
Reduced time and comp for the CPA exam makes me SMH. 😳How are you supposed to pay off that worthless fifth year of education?
