I seem to go through this cycle where I'll try to fix a problem, fix it and then go back to my old ways. I'm trying to fight against it but basically my performance review is coming up and I think it's likely I'm going to be let go because of my failure to meet expectations. Hello! Looking for some guidance. I will soon be leaving Verizon after 15 years with them (6 years HR experience, 3 years Operations, 6 years leadership). The last HR position I held will be eliminated and I was offered a severance. I am now in the market for a new place of employment I can call home. I was thinking of trying for a start up. But the likes of Google, Adobe, etc. also seem appealing. Would you recommend a start up as my next endeavor? I enjoy helping build processes and policies.

My work product is becoming worse and partners are noticing/commenting. I just hate the practice area so much that every time I am asked to do something I just get it done as quickly as possible and can’t be bothered to put in effort. I think I need to quit so I’m not fired for bad performance with a horrible reputation. Am I nuts and should I just wait til they let me go?

M/SM and above, why do you label a meeting as “touch point” or ask if you can have a “quick chat” when it’s something serious? Millennials like us always assume we’re about to get fired - I actually have been laid off in a meeting with that title. But at my new job, my boss asked for a “quick chat” to literally ask me to change the title of a meeting and then chat about christmas. Now that I’m in management, I want to understand it better.

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.

Its been a month since my first paycheck and HR and the Payroll team are incredibly unresponsive to my inquiry on where this bonus is. What’s the next course of action? Legal? My start date at the new job isn’t until 2023 so there is some time for me to turn in my notice.
