Have been making over 500k for the last 10 years and I still can't save anything. It's tough out there. Not sure how people save anything. Makes me angry towards the rich because they seem to be getting richer while we remain poor.

Sorry bud, but you are the rich

While on one hand I agree with you, read my description above on why I think there are is a case to be made that salary does as well. Or at the very least living a rich lifestyle without the repercussions of living a rich lifestyle when you don’t have the funds to do so

What are you spending your entire salary on? Unless you are the only breadwinner of a large family in a HCOL area you should be cruising….

May be OP meant 50k a year? Do software engineer get 500k a year? Really? For all 10 years of his career, i doubt that.

Are you really saying you can’t save on that salary? Honestly trying to to understand what your spending looks like

like

You need to get your spending under control.

Sounds like someone needs a MAJOR reality check…and it’s YOU, OP.

Take a good hard look at what you're spending on and ask yourself whether it's necessary.

Sounds like youre living way beyond your means. If I made 500k a year for the last 10 years I'd have half if not 75% of it saved. I'd pay my house andy car off.

We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok.
