It’s always prorated for me. I just negotiate a bunch of sign on bonuses to cover the loss + a few years down the road.
Chief
My McKinsey bonus this year was prorated (New joiner in October)
I've never had it not be prorated
why does this have so many reactions?
Why would your bonus not be Prorated? You weren’t there for the whole year lol
No worries, that's helpful anyway. I might point out the language issue in contract 😅
Didn't know any companies gave full bonuses to people that only worked part of the year.
Not sure how that would make sense.

Yes - prorated bonus based on time worked during the FY is standard at Deloitte
Yes have had it prorated before
Prorated bonus first year is standard at BCG (at least NAMR) as well

I’ve worked at a few F500 companies, as well as EY and Accenture. Every single one of them prorated the bonus if you started part way through the year.

Yes always prorated. I’ve seen this at multiple companies.
Yes. It's not unusual
I've seen it before. That's why you negotiate sign on bonuses, you should never expect a bonus and salary increase in your first year since it's usually never a full year.
Then it is a badly written contract. Prorated is standard. Actually great that you got sign on AND any bonus.
We ALWAYS pro-rate.
You shouldn’t have done 12 months of effort in 9 lol
I'll know for next time 🤣
Yes, my first year working I started in July and my annual bonus and raise were both prorated.
Sign-on bonuses not prorated but yearly bonus always prorated
Have declined offers several times over this. This is relatively common.
Thanks for the answers. It must be consulting/US thing then 😅
Well, I had/gave 1st year bonuses in full based on performance. Obviously, it's tough to meet unless you smash it.
Hum... that makes sense, but my contract is 0 to X number range. Not a percentage.
I’ve seen this a few times.
I think it’s pretty awesome to get any bonus. I was promoted to manager this year and my bonus was still 0. Lol
