Hey guys! I’m looking to shift careers. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 7 years now. Before that I’ve worked in an office, retail, banking, sales and was a correctional officer. I have a BA in criminal justice that I have yet to use. I really want an office job that pays well, but I’ve had no luck finding someone to hire me, actually even getting an interview most likely due to lack of experience. I’m open to options or if anyone knows a company that’s hiring that would be great!

I took a temporary job as an attorney advisor at the SBA this past fall b/c it offered a regular paycheck, and my solo practice was suffering b/c of the pandemic. I like the work. I like working from home. Anyone have any insight into the possibility of this temp job becoming permanent. Did the SBA hire you permanently when your temp position ended? How did that happen?

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?

Anyone have any insight into Capital One’s Capital Markets analyst position? I have an interview for it on Friday. Recruiter says it’s entry level (which I’m okay with) and the description says it’s an IB position. I was unaware capital one even had an IB division?

Curious how folks are governing/auditing their HRIS data. Wondering if this always done it manually.

Conventional wisdom on current firm counter-offering when mentioning you have a few offers? I have an offer at a large firm in Miami. Current large firm has no office there but mentioned they can likely let me be there in a remote basis. BCG and a few other law blog sites have advised against accepting current firm counter-offers, e.g., likely to leave, not loyal, off partner track, etc., but would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

What are your go to sources for news? I am considering subscribing to The Ken.. is it worth it? Alternative suggestions welcome.

I slightly dropped my MacBook and apparently (slightly) damaged the keyboard and trackpad as per service Center. I don’t see any visible damage to the system but that’s what they say and are charging me about 28k for this even though my system is in warranty period (will complete a year in a few days). Are there any workaround for this? Like I can use external keyboard or maybe negotiate, anything else?

Rising junior interning in deals advisory. If I intern in trading at a bank for next summer, will I still have a shot at ib recruiting for full time? Background: MS in Statistics from tier-1 Institute, 3 YoE across Bank of America and UBS, based in India.

Is it possible without a) going for an MBA b) Starting from the bottom at Undergrad analyst level.
Would ideally target pre-MBA Associate level (one step short of post MBA level).

Any leads/strategy to crack this would be greatly appreciated.

Happy wife happy life is a really toxic saying. I’m just shocked how this has become the standard saying for men in relationships. I have friends of mine saying this all the time, and I have just thought it’s so cringe and always want to say my thoughts on it but always decide to hold back. However, imagine the saying reversed - happy husband happy life - that would lead to all kinds of uproar. Litigators—how many different cases are you on?

Been feeling spread too thin lately but I don’t know whats typical. Curious what others do. And would you mind sharing whether you’re a junior, midlevel, partner, etc??

I realize sheer number of cases doesn’t tell the whole story… obviously you can be buried on one massive case. I’m finding it hard to jump back and forth between everything I have going on right now, though, but I don’t know if the answer is to just deal with it.

What’s the difference between FAAS and FDD? Also which one pay better?

Do you find working remotely during this time that you’re having a harder time staying on top of everything that’s going on? With the scattered communication and a boss who hasn’t been as focused and can be hard to pin down, I sometimes think I’m giving 150% but something ends up lagging and I’m just wiped out.
