Hello 🐠, what is the best advice you could give to someone who has just joined a company in terms of networking, work, free-time activities, etc in order to thrive in the role?

Schedule 15 minute meetings with everyone you can, start with one level above you, do a short intro and see how you can help that person out by doing your role well (not taking on extra work, ideally!) Great way to proactively get to know people

What SD means is have a careful eye since you “take the pen” first. Get good at your job, help with a few initiatives, get working on business development (RFPs) as soon as you have some bandwidth (time and effort)

Take your time. It’s a long journey and you grow really fast the better your network and experience at the firm. Momentarily it may feel like people are getting ahead of you.

Have a solid self care plan and cultivate an identity outside of work.

Short term those may not feel important depending on how you were raised but long term they will create an essential bedrock for your mental health.

Don’t be scared to go for it. That applies to everything. Be bold and go after what you want. Don’t just be a robot that can be ordered around

Figure out who the decision makers are. Look for potential sponsors. Prioritise your health, sleep and eat well - you need to be at your best physically, mentally and emotionally to perform well. Speak with a career coach who can develop a 100 day plan with you.

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

Where can I expect better data science domain expertise (In my previous companies I found very less understanding of Data Science practices as team)? Heared good things about both of these. Also hearing Tiger is expanding rapidly and getting some crap projects as well in the name of data science. Could someone put light on these things?

3 YOE in a big 4/accenture firm. Most of my consulting projects have been in data science/analytics, data engineering, & digital marketing. I have also heavily used R, Python, PowerBI, Tableau, SQL, etc & some digital analytics tools such as adobe analytics

DE&I is now a core leadership competency. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks. Though some would say *that* itself is a perk.

My joining date is coming closer, however education background checks are still processing ( international degrees) . My onboarding coordinator told me that I can still join even if education check is still in progress, provided there wont be any flags. I don’t see any issue with my degrees and have done same with my past companies.
Anyone experienced this ? Any problem joining while check is processing ?

13 yr outside Sales Experience in the B2B space, multiple roles/companies. Current quota is $15MCAD, I usually do not bad in quota but lately has shifted to rewarding medicorciy and "pooling" some numbers countrywide which i really dont like.
Current comp is $85k Base and $115 OTE with a ceiling of $150k CAD/$120k US. Feel it's too little for my experience and they are taking perks away by the day.
Thinking of moving to I tech sales? Anyone else do it? What's comp look like?

A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest

I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

AMA.

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
