Good question! It all depends on how I feel, tbh. Since doing keto I try to really listen to my body more. If Im feeling a little weak after a workout or my stomach is growling 30 mins later, I’ll go ahead and eat and break the fast. Usually I’m not hungry after a workout and can wait til 1 or 2pm. But I handle non-workout days the same way - if I’m really hungry early, I’ll eat 🤷🏻♀️
In short, I don’t think there’s anything unhealthy or wrong with working out fasted and not eating immediately after a workout. Many people eat one meal a day, which I have to assume means any workout would not be followed by fuel.
Eating after a workout prevents the increase in growth hormone that happens naturally after a workout. Working out fasted and remaining fasted for a little while post workout actually has benefits.
I regularly workout in the morning fasted - I actually prefer it! I’ve never had an issue with it and in theory it should help maintain ketosis by really depleting any glucose in the system. Sometimes I don’t have great stamina, but that can be a side effect of keto generally and I work out to feel better, not for specific muscle gains.
Sounds good EY1. Just to clarify and ensure we are on the page; Yes, intend to workout in a fasting state. However, do you have a snack or protein/fat/carb you eat immediately after to replenish energy? Or do you remain in the fasting state till you break your IF, in my case, at 2pm
