I’m a science PhD student at a target school. Have an offer from MBB to start in 1-2 years as a generalist consultant. Absolutely no business/consulting experience. I chose an office close to the mountains for a change in location/life. Now I’m learning that some offices are lot more “prestigious” than others. Was it a bad career move to not pick NYC/SFO/BOS? Or is quality of problems more or less uniform nationally?

Is LS boutique to the buy side a viable route? Or is there often intermediary roles?

Would you say being a partner is more demanding than being an industry exec?

What advice would you give your younger self, when starting out as a Partner/ MD? I start as an MD in 2 days and would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

What certifications are good for technical project manager? I was thinking to start with PSM and PSPO and then move to ITIL, ITSM. Not sure about this though. Not planning to do PMP as I think it’s more waterfall focused. Was also thinking about AWS. Any other certifications recommended?

What is the best time to go into industry tax if you have no intent on staying long term (SM/Partner)?

Starting a new job at Applied Materials on Monday as a Manufacturing Engineer III. I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?

I have $20k in savings, I owe $6,000 to my 401k loan, that’s the only loan I got. I am debt free otherwise except for my house. Should I use my savings to pay off?
