Hi all,

Just received an offer with a base salary that seems low to me compared to the data I’m finding here on Glassdoor. I was offered $65k. They countered at $70k but the base salary range is $60k to $107k. This is supported by 138 salaries submitted. Also, I’m bringing over 20 years of industry experience both in sales and operations mgmt.

Should I try to get another $5k from them?
Or, just be happy with the $70k and move forward?

Thank you!

If you have 20 YOE in the industry, I would trust your gut in thinking the numbers are low. You can always go back and say “based on my 20+ years of experience and the research I’ve done, I believe $xxxxx salary plus commission target of $xxxxx is more in line with the market.” It’s unlikely that they flat out rescind the offer and for a sales position, they often want to see you negotiate. Unless you need this job, I would push back a little to get what you think is fair

Thanks, SAP1. Sound advice. Much appreciated and inline with my thinking!

Well, for 20 YOE a salary of $70 does feel low. Care to share the location, role, and company?

I was told that commissions would run about $20k. Yet, Glassdoor data indicates $35k-$65k in annual commission by the same 138 employee submissions.

Researching the job mkt & pay for nursing: It is so easy to set up a first interview esp. as a nurse. Set up a zoom meeting, in the zoom meeting ask abt job details and ask for the salary range. They will give it to you, and in my case it was the same range for both of the companies. (Hospice oncall nurse here👋). Then you fit in somewhere on that continuum based on education & experience—that where the negotiation comes in—they will make a case to place you as low as possible on the scale.

Apologizes if this is a dumb question: but do companies keep the same pay for every employee regardless of location?
