How did you become a product owner with no CPW experience? Sounds like a recipe for disaster
CPQ has a TON of nuance that you’ll only really grasp from experience.
SC1, thanks! Those are great tips! I’ve thought about doing that, I was just unsure on how to go about the meeting with them. Like big item questions that would get me started. Luckily I do have a great technical team that is very easy to communicate with. My biggest thing is I don’t want to feel like I am bothering them or wasting there time. That’s more so on me though because I don’t think they would feel that way lol
I’m interested in moving into product ownership too. How did you make the move with limited experience?
As for CPQ your best bet is to spin up a new playground in trailhead and get to work on configuration. Salesforce offers training geared towards the cert but you’ll
Learn a lot too.
I feel like my previous jobs set me up for a product owner role. I was never a set admin for one company. My first 16 months was with a consulting group and did admin work but also worked within projects and ended up doing my own consulting after my company contracted me out to a client.
The key responsibilities of the Product Owner is to determine the roadmap and vision. Additionally what enhancements will go into the product and when. This is typically done through a Sprint cycle. As product owner you should understand existing and new capabilities. A capability assessment is a great way to show the value & white space. Product owner should own the budget and vendor relationship. The Product owner should be part process enhancement and business analysis. Read the below

Agree with ESM here, the Product Owner is way more likely to own the budget than a PM.
Getting certified should help. Also being well reversed in leading practices for product ownership can be helpful.
