How’s work life balance in forensics?
Exec conference thoughts so far?
AlixPartners I am expecting an offer for VP in financial crime/compliance and risk. I need to give them my compensation expectation. Currently working in Bank with 7+ YOE including 6 yrs in Big4 non-MBA (Masters in Finance). What is the total comp (base+bonus) that I can ask for? What is the general sign on bonus? Thanks in advance

1) may be easiest to do an internal transfer to your firm’s forensic team. Transferring to forensics isn’t necessarily a requirement. Plenty of people join from tax, audit, industry and don’t have forensic experience
2) it is wonderful. 40 hour work weeks. If there ever is any over time it has to be approved in advance, so you know it’s coming (not usually a last minute request/demand to work on the weekend or at night). Over time is paid, so it feels better to work it.
3) our salaries levels are public - OPM.gov
There are different scales for different locations. The job posting will tell you what level you qualify for based on education and experience. FoAs are usually GS 9, 11, 12 and you have to apply to become a 13 (competitive selection). I think it is easier to get from HQ (maybe automatic, but that is not the case elsewhere). We don’t hire many 9s (not sure if any, any more. That’s usually for someone right out of school that maybe did an internship). Most people come in at 11 I think
You don’t necessarily need your CPA, especially since you have the CFE. However, it will make you more competitive. I would recommend going for it if you can, but don’t let it hold you back from applying. CPA is still regarded very highly
Can you get in without a CPA or CFE?
For context, here is my profile:
Currently a Senior Audit Associate at one of the big 4 public accounting firms with 3 years of experience. Don't have my CPA yet but working towards it. I have met the 150 credits requirement. I have a CFE.
I’m interested in being a FA also
@ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI 1) Thank you so much for your detailed response. You explained everything very well. I have 2 more questions if you don't mind me asking:
1) What is does a typical day look like for FBI forensic accountants? What are the tasks/activities?
2) When do positions ususally go up? I've never found FBI forensic accounting positions at USAjobs. Also, is that where FBI posts new openings or do they post of FBI website itself?
Thank you. This was really helpful. Highly appreciate you responding to all my questions with full details.
What is the pay for a GS 11 and GS 12 in Salt Lake City?
They do. You’ll have to provide your pay stub to show what you’re making as of the final offer time.
They’ll use your application/resume as a way to justify any increase above step 1 in whatever GS level you’re placed in.
