Wow, I have heard of more and more of these scams lately. That was definitely well-planned, and a lot of money to steal just from sending one text. It is definitely becoming more difficult for individuals to tell what is fraudulent whenever scammers are pretending to be affiliated with banks.
I see so many stories like this, and I'm always cautioning relatives, especially some elderly folks, to be extremely cautious if they get any communications from banks. I hate sounding like some kind of maniac, but you really can't be too careful. All of our modern communications devices are great, but they do give scammers way too much access to potential marks.
I haven’t even walked into a physical bank in over a decade, but how would he get cashiers checks with just the debit card information? Wouldn’t he need to show ID to match the name on the account?
