Well, it's kind of up to you to cultivate your own inner peace and protect your energy regardless of what you're dealing with. You should strive for your happiness and positiveness to occur intrinsically and independent of external factors. It's of course easier said than done, but I don't need validation from customers and I let things slide off of me so they don't burden me throughout the day,.
Trust me, I go through it everyday. Unfortunately, it just comes with the territory. I always remember that they are the reason I get my pay check. So making sure they're satisfied and want to keep me is the most important part.
Customers are consumed with getting their project to to perfection and they set the standard on you. In design work two people can have totally different ideas and that creates a hardship for each other. I have been on both ends of the spectrum. I owned an ad agency and had to bow down to Bayer and Pfizer daily!!! It was my bread and butter.
I did their package design. There was a team under me and running around, checking on every wrong spelling, or TM …
Yes…it was challenging. But with that said, I was grateful I had them and did what they said. Customers are always “right”. It was my job on how to react. They had there prestige positions and acted high and mighty all day on the phone giving directions. Picky! Harassing! and Overbearing!
However, remember WHY you chose design as a career. I enjoyed being an artist. I loved the photography. I loved being my creative-self! Everyone is picky! I was, too! Just try to understand they are under pressure due to deadlines, and doing what their bosses needed. Be in the business because you are a creative person. Other jobs you could be a bored robot.
I might consider switching industries if you're feeling that way. I have my off days, but in general, my customers are really nice and enjoy working with us. I can only imagine it's dependent on what industry you're in and what type of product you sell. But if you hate your job, that's not a good way to live.
I either watch memes or listen to music. I mostly prefer cinematic classical but sometimes I tune in to pop stations or the one’s meant for exercising
I recommend looking at this as a good problem, and as an opportunity to gather market data. Grumbly customers often provide the most useful feedback. They tend to be more direct, and that's where you get some of your best ideas for improvement. Market research that goes to a bunch of nice people or even customer advisory boards who are very polite is often not useful. The movers and shakers in the world and not always the niceset people. Embrace them!
