Sounds like you are entitled. Look, we don't always get on the project we want, which is why you pursue your interests with the reinvestment and other side projects you take on at your firm. Taking that approach will pay dividends in the long run..
Dude my first project as an analyst was 1.5 years and I hated it. Sometimes you just gotta suck it up and take it. But always look for opportunities to roll off.
I rolled off my first project as an analyst as soon as I could when I found a project that I actually wanted to work on. The timing is always very tricky but if you can make it work, do it. Don't just suck it up and stay on your current project.
Roll off how? Underperform so the kick you off? Clearly not good. It's your first project - it's really not a smart thing to be demanding as you honestly have no idea about things and as an analyst are expected to do a variety of projects until you have enough experience to profile and specialize.
First project was staff aug functional analyst. No work, bad requirements, no documentation, one line user story with limited details, basically a shit show. Lasts 9 months. Took on my own to learn a new skill and reached out to SMs specializing in this area. Got release from initial client, and now i get to choose what i do in my new area. Stop seeing the bads, and find solutions.
Good luck with that. Unless your performance has been subpar, they will never roll you off the project (unless you have the backing of another SM/MD on a new project). I've been told that before at ACN and I was stuck until the end of the project. Although the SM did help me switch my practice
I'm with PwC1. Lose the self entitlement attitude and put your time in.
I had to wait 4 years and 3 months to get a good project! Sometimes you just gotta tough it out! Get a grip!
Really I am not kidding, more than 4 years.
I wouldn’t. You have not earned the right to be demanding.
How many is a few?
Do you have another project lined up that is more in your interest, or are you going to the bench?
My first project at ACN was fucking poisonous MD berating a SM and lead keep on changing direction I asked for out got a bad review and now on a project that I absolutely love. I told them if they keep selling work I will keep flying in not the snow. PS I hate snow.
Context matters. Performance? Relationship with leadership?
Talk with your SM about it. Enter the conversation ambivalent and seeking advice on what's better in the long run, then align yourself to that
ACN5, were you just staffed on shitty projects back to back for 4 years or stuck on one shitty project?
@DD1 stuck on the same clusterstuck of a project. I am finally free. I was an experienced hire.
In that situation now. You'll get used to it. Set an end date and that's it
Bottom line is it has to be a push-pull. Is leadership willing to let you go? And, do you have a project ready to take you? If yes, then do it. It's your career, and you might have to rock the boat a little bit (politically) to build the profile you want. Not everyone is willing to do that, b/c obv there are risks involved. But as long as you consistently deliver quality, then leadership will typically forgive any minor frustrations you cause. You just can't hang them out to dry.
