You spend them on stuff...
I thought airline miles gave the best value? Good place to start is thepointsguy.com
Gift cards give best point to dollar ratio.
Dear God, gift cards are not the best rate
Figure out what Amex transfer partners can make a trip happen and then transfer them.
I usually just get gift cards to like the capital grille, some other fancy restaurant to treat the lady
I found booking flights through amex using points is good too. Save rate as getting gift cards.
Getting merchandise using points is a rip off!!!!!
Miles are. But if you need something bad gift cards are a decent play
@Deloitte 1, yeah, some are not (like hotel and amex cash gift cards). But others like restaurants and retail stores give $0.01 per point in their gift cards ($100 card for 10,000 points).
yeah. did gift cards and ended up treating myself to some bose qc35s last week
Mm wait. Maybe not. :(
@D1, what is then?
GC's are the average play, 1 cpp. It's not the worst. But you can do much better (miles/hotel points)
I didn't see anything better than $0.01 per point. Please correct if wrong.
I personal don't find transferring amex points to airlines or hotel is all that valuable when I already have plenty of those to spend on travel/hotels.
But not in foreign programs. Credit card transfers give you access to a lot of the sweet spots. E.g. Transfer to KrisFlyer to get access to Singapore Suites, transfer to Korean Skypass to get RT to Hawaii for 25k miles, etc.
@Accenture1, same here. Got 5 $50 staples gift cards to help pay for an iPad (staple takes a max of 5gc per transaction and amex only has$25 or $50 gc available)
I agree EY2. Best I've seen is $.01 per point on most big store GCs. Sounds like I need to look into the transferring miles play.
You're doing good with anything valuing a point above $0.012. Gift cards and other cash equivalents are typically a cent or less. Same for airline tix. Best value I've seen is hotel stays (but this is probably going on an inflated Amex site price). Haven't strayed much beyond that.
