Sounds like it might be time with hit them back with a surprise resignation. Seriously though, that's super disrespectful and I would probably start planning my exit strategy. It's a red flag if I've ever seen one.
It’s honestly so disrespectful and misleading how they did it
If they ask you to sign a new contract, say you want to review it and if necessary renegotiate.
It may not be right, but it is pretty common in Sales. Especially when upper management wants to put more money in their pocket. That being said, I’ve been at a company that had reps walk out the same day the new comp plan was rolled out. This may be the very reason why it’s such a tight labor market. Everyone’s looking for a better opportunity.
A lot to unpack with comp changes.
First, do you even like the organization or just there for the money? Nothing wrong for being there for the money as a sales professional; however, be sure you are a sales professional (ie, hired gun), and can transfer your skills elsewhere and make more money.
Second, if you like the company and product, be cautiously optimistic and see what happens.
Been through a ton of these and there is always high levels of skepticism. You signed up to be an individual contributor in a commissioned environment, so the real question is: how good are you?
I started a job in July with a guarantee for the first 3 months + a very modest ongoing salary.
6 days before the first guarantee payment, I was told the owner decided to not pay the guarantee and also removed the salary.
After I refused pressure from HR (3 different emails) to sign the addendum for the changes, I was terminated a week later.
Luckily, I start with a different bank Monday and my Attorney will be filing a wrongful termination / breach of contract suit in the next few weeks.
Been through a couple, read it carefully and try to maximize they pay plan, if you can’t move on to a better opportunity that suits you. One door closes but another one always opens !
I have worked with a comp. That those this we assemble for meetings and you are working out that meeting with new laws that would affect your entire sales.
But that's why you are a sales persons. I would say it builds your confidence the more truely. And that's where taking up new challenges comes in.
