How do you navigate working for multiple partners with unrealistic expectations. Need advice. I’ve been assigned an incredible amount of work. I’m in the office first and out last. When I raise the issue that I see a colossal problem and won’t be able to finish my tax obligations by the deadline, everyone turns a blind eye. Heading into tax season I foresee a serious problem. How can I get these partners to take it seriously?

Do you have a team that you can delegate to? If not, can you raise the need to Partners / Schedulers so they can find you someone to fill some of that gap?

There’s likely no one to replace you as Manager if you’ve already escalated the concern and got no response. You need to try and get strong team members underneath you so you can delegate to them and shift the workload.

Sounds to familiar for me. What I did was, setup a weekly call with each partner, gave them a run down of their engagement, expected completion date, and status of where it is (including whether client is not responsive and has not responded or providing information in a timely fashion). Provide additional information of your work load and provide complete transparency. Let the partner figure it out, hence, they make the fuck you money..

You don't. They don't care until they care.

How do I be a decent manager to a coworker who's upset I've been promoted twice in two years and they haven't? We started out as coworkers, became decent friends after a few good moments, but went back to simply coworkers after they flubbed a few projects and I had to step in to clean up. I'm non-confrontational but year-end reviews are right around the corner and I'm worried about having to act professional to someone who I got too close with and who now hates me.

Small firm (my boss, me, & a paralegal). After a hearing I did not handle, boss intended to seek review of the ruling in its entirety. What was communicated to me by paralegal was to seek review of a portion.

Seeking review is now time-barred. Boss is not upset, but this is 1 case & 1 problem. There are other cases & other stories.

How do I talk to my boss about being more present (boss is never in office, has “too many” emails, never answers his phone) without being seen as insubordinate?

I've been at this job for almost 5 years now, and ever since the day I started, there have been problems with my coworkers. It's not just one person—it's everyone in my department, and they all seem to be working against each other instead of together. Should I leave?
