Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

Just did this, albeit virtually.
I mentioned that I’ve been engaged in casual chats with firms about joining (truth) and that those conversions will soon progress into formal recruiting (kinda bullsht). And shared that in order to not move forward w those convos, I’d need to be paid $X
They didn’t call my bluff and my next paycheck was upped
This worked because I had leverage. Small firm, leadership position, nobody could replace me, client relationships, etc
Start with performance metrics. Quantify your value. Show a knowledge of market comps. And internal comps if possible. Be fair and understand that especially at large businesses your manager may operate under constraints outside of their control. If you present an ultimatum, be prepared that your manager may be unable to execute for reasons outside of their control and know what your alternatives are.
