I am seeing stellar returns and extremely low expense ratios but apparently since they're quantitatively managed algorithms, they don't account for things like corona for example.

Do they bring in revenue?
If they do, the higher ups don’t care about much else unless it’s resulting in noticeable employee churn.
They are friends with leadership, have something on someone else or agency is afraid of them being litigious. This is what usually keeps “difficult performers” around.
This is the answer:
Success has far less to do with skill, intelligence, or output than with proximity to power. It’s about who you know, who protects you, and who keeps dragging you forward when the org chart changes.

It's a shame I'm not still running a creative dept. I was never threatened by the skills of the people working for me and even chose other people's work over my own. When I did that once with the prize being getting to shoot in LA in the winter, the team I chose asked me why I chose their spot over mine, I said, "Yours was better."
Is their work good? Could be a valid reason.
