How early can one ask for a promotion at a new job if they are doing well.

I feel like as long as you are accomplishing tasks, taking on more work, and need little to no supervision, it's time to ask. I personally keep a little work journal of big accomplishments, challenges I've overcome, etc, so I have a little ammo going into a review.

During the mid-year you can tell your manager your interest in getting the next level and ask what deliverables you need to provide so that they can justify it to leadership and then you do your best to crush those metrics

You also need to see the requirements to make sure you meet or exceed them. Like if the next level requires 10yoe and you have 6 than it is unlikely

smart

I like to time things around performance reviews or after hitting clear goals. If you're consistently exceeding expectations, I think it's totally fair to bring it up after 6 to 12 months. Just back it up with results and stay open to feedback.

Hi. The first step is to check the company handbook to see what the eligibility requirements are to be considered for an open position: for example, 12 months of employment, in good standing (not on any PIPS), and meeting the requirements. If you qualify based on those, at the very least, they should give you a courtesy interview to see if you qualify.

If you are taking on more responsibilities and exceeding expectations ask now. Don’t wait.

smart

I think around performance reviews is generally what I try for - so mid year or end of year

Any struggling paralegals here? Do you feel like your financial situation is affecting your productivity at work? I like the work I do but the pay really sucks. I feel like the fear of not being able to pay some bills on time is affecting my productivity. I’ve asked for a raise but that may not still cut it, and idk if that will go through or not.

I know people will say no promotion potential or that’s not how it works…but what if it could? What if you make yourself valuable by still setting your boundaries? Why would we resent someone who has that opportunity?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Currently awaiting an offer for a new sales role. Salary somewhere between 100-120, OTE 160-200 depending on base. I intend to ask about annual merit increases and what they have been previously, but was wondering if anyone had ever negotiated an annual increase based on inflation in addition to any performance based merit increases. Seems like a smart way to protect myself while times are so volatile and not get stuck with the typical 3% when inflation is 8+. Thoughts?

Anyone from BGC?

This one is for folks on h1b visa. So at time when you have an offer in hand(not accepted the offer yet and h1b transfer process not yet begun) while you are working with your current employer, do you even speak to your employer about your new offer to see if they make a counter offer?
Is there a risk involved with this approach assuming your current employer doesn't provide you with a counter offer and they ask you to leave immediately (and your h1b visa hasn't been transferred either)

Interviewing at a dream company, and right from the first interview the recruiter told me we are way off on salary expectations. This was a little bit expected, as the role is requiring a few years less experience than I have and also in a much cheaper market. They already told me the salary range during this first call, but wondering if they like me enough and I get an offer, how I might approach negotiating for more. I would be making much less than I do now, but it is a dream company.

I got a job offer but it's 3k less than the low end of my happy range. But there will be a review in 6 months with the potential for a raise. I'd rather start at the low end of range. What is the best way to ask for that??
