How friendly are people in ATL/how open are they to making friends? Just moved from Chicago to Dallas with my family and there's a huge cultural difference in terms of how friendly people are.

People are nice but I don’t have many friends who I actually do stuff with regularly on the weekends 🥺

Exactly^, went to college here and starting my career here (hopefully people are friendly post grad). I feel that a lot of Georgians that I met from college are cordial nice and want to come off that way but don’t necessarily want to be friends with you. Some already have their main friend groups and just want you for going out etc

Atlanta is a mixing pot like so many cities. Two of the primary metro counties (Cobb and Gwinnett) have been some of the fastest growing in the US since 1980. Not unlike other growing areas like Dallas, Phoenix or Austin.
The most outgoing neighbors in my immediate vicinity are yankees from New York. Who would've guessed? We have folks from Georgia, California, Ohio, and Virginia as well.

Dallas, GA or Dallas, TX? I feel like people in Dallas TX are usually pretty friendly. If you're in Atlanta proper people are also very friendly. Atlanta has a lot of transplants (Dallas TX, too!) so you wouldn't be alone in that regard.

SC1- my wife is from there. Also OP was talking about moving to Dallas, but about culture in Atlanta. Pretty okay assumption it could have been Dallas, GA since their post wasn't really clear about why they wanted to know about Atlanta culture

Atlanta is great, you just have to put yourself out there. Go to events even if you’re by yourself. We have wine festivals, volunteer activities, 5Ks. These are all easy places to meet people.

like

Chicago culture is a little different from Texas/ATL (southern culture). There are transplants at all three locations so it should be a melting pot but dominant cultures are still there

Southerners will always that southern hospitality towards people…but don’t cross us or it’s a wrap 😮‍💨

We recently sleep trained our 7 month son. He went from waking up multiple times during night and taking only 30 minute naps 3 times during day (most cases nursed to sleep or rocked to sleep or took a drive) to sleeping 12 hours at night without interruption and two 2 hour naps and one 45 minutes nap during day. We both love that he is getting enough sleep and well rested on one hand. On the other hand, we are now wondering if he is sleeping way too much.. contd…

Has anyone else talked to a doctor about stress while trying to conceive? I’ve been having a really hard time wanting a baby for the way my husband and I have been arguing or talking to each other. Do you think our anxiety or tension is because we have not been able to conceive?

My anxiety has been at bay after changing my job and just feeling like I HAVE control over my life. But now it's back because I feel like I'm behind in other aspects of my life (I.e dating). I have so many friends getting engaged and I just feel... anxious since I am SO single. I'm 27, and I know I'm at that age where people do but it just sucks. I've been on the apps too and it's just... more demotivating honestly than anything else

Are there any well-off suburbs around Chicago where there's a significant amount of black or mixed race people? Significant meaning 40-50%+. I've seen a lot of nice black suburbs in southern and eastern cities but less in the midwest. In an interracial relationship and want to get an idea if there are any suburbs where our kids would feel represented or if we'll need to move down south for that.

Are there any mothers here who voluntarily gave primary custody to the kids father? I love my children fiercely but tbh I don’t think I’m cut out to be a single parent. Family and friends tell me I’m a great mom but at the end of the day having them on my own is exhausting and I end up just either letting them do whatever they want Bc I don’t feel strong enough to set a limit about it, or yelling at them. They’re 4 and 7 for reference. Please constructive responses only. Thank you!

Started at a big firm in July with high hopes- in the career path I wanted and I would be joining with other new grads.
After onboarding, it’s as if my team forgets about us every day. The training is non existent, there doesn’t seem to be any initiative to invest in new hires, my manager scolds me for not knowing enough yet gives no direction. I don’t want to waste time (colleagues mentioned it doesn’t get much better from here). Do I embrace the suck or look for other opportunities?
