A movie line Ive never forgotten: “It’s the world’s biggest secret: nobody feels like an adult.”
To whatever degree, I think everyone is just acting like theyve seen their favorite people act....or guessing....or seeing what they can get away with. Theres always somebody doing better than you—and that person probably doesnt have it figured out either.
I feel mostly comfortable with things but there are certain situations where I’m like oh god where’s the adult or have some sort of impostor syndrome
I totally agree with this!
It depends who I work with. You are only ontop of your game if the people around you look up to you and support you, if they are positive and say you are good. I am lucky that I have a client that respects me and provides gratitude when we work hard and so good work.
My last client threw me off the account as we didn't see eye to eye and he demanded things and didn't understand what goes into the work and how our team works hard.
So net net if everyone around me says I'm doing great it pumps up my confidence then it's alot easier to believe I know what I am doing great. If they put me down then I have doubts. I still think back to one agency where I didn't have supporters. It drives me to be the best I can at my current agency.
Act like the person you want to become...someone else said that but it’s good advice.
7 years. I’m 9 years in now and still learning. Also still making shit up as a go. Like when account management asks me for a ballpark budget without me seeing the creative, because it does not yet exist. But Clients want know how much this is going to cost. Sure, here you go, just took that number out of my a$$.

7 years in management and feel very confident but recognize there are still roles
I have not graduated to...yet.
10 years. But it wasn’t about confidence. It was knowing that everyone else was full of shit. Does anyone really know what they’re doing? Not really. We’re all making this up as we go along. Even the “great” ones.
As somebody in the same role, took me about 6 months to understand my responsibilities and the account overall
Mark Knopfler once said that every time he picked up his guitar he felt like an amateur.
I think that pretty much sums it up.

Yes, that’s all we do.
18 months to feel regularly confident in my current job.
