I’ve heard that whenever an agency promises something “six months from now” that usually means never.
Ive done. And ensured I got what I wanted once I proved myself.
Maybe not guaranteed promotions but definitely reviews
I’ve tried it. Never really worked out. Had a 6 month review agreed upon when I was hired. Kept asking for it. Didn’t get it until a year later
Theres just so much subjective stuff along the way. What you contribute to it fluctuates a lot too. What if they told you you had to sell four campaigns a year? There'd be a dozen reasons that might not happen right? Same with you telling them they have to give you reviews and raises. Shit, 72 just laid off 30 people after "resigning" a client, and losing another one. You're lucky you werent one of them honestly.
I had a person I manage negotiated for a 6 month fast track, he didn’t get it after 6 month bc I didn’t feel he was ready to get promoted and I consider him for next round which is 1 year after he started. That said, you can negotiate it but whether or not you’re getting it is another things dependent on performance and everything else.
I think that’s a good idea!
You can set up a 6 month check in to check in the compensation and position etc. I have seen someone negotiated 6 month fast track promotion but at the end of the day, it depends on your performance.
Great idea! What’s your experience been at 72? A plan in place for growth?
You can try... but to my knowledge, a promotion isn't always about your performance. See, you can be great at what you do, as measured on paper via mutually agreed-upon criteria... but at the end of the day, that what you're paid to do.... and you agreed to do that based on that compensation package!
There's no guarantee for a promotion. And most of the time, a promotion is there because a position opened; either business growth or someone higher than you is leaving.
At best, the company can promise you'll be 'next-in-line' for a promotion.
6 month reviews tend to be for new grads or positions that may have sales targets and would be cut if you aren't selling. What you can ask about is the company's normal review cycle. Comprehension of how they let you move within the company of opportunities become available after a year etc. Most agencies and Clients look at budgets annually. So phrasing your request about growing into a next role when it becomes available ( after a year) is smart business for the agencies too (financially) so it's more probable. The key is your performance and relationships at work.
