Some of these responses are a bit crazy lol. A promotion in under a year? Your promotion should come when you’re doing your work and the work of the role above you. There’s no time-frame in regards to when you “should” be promoted. If everyone was promoted in under a year we’d have thousands of CEO’s. Be patient, ask for it when you’re ready and when you’re killing it. Not just because you w been there a year.
You’re making the assumption that the people who said a year or less weren’t doing their work and the work above me in less than a year. No one said that a year was the standard, we are sharing our experience and what we did to get there.
It could of course take longer for some and shorter for others. Like I said, the key is proving your worth and showing that you’re ready. If you’re not ready in a year or less then you wouldn’t be getting promoted.
Please don’t let messages like this discourage you OP. Go at your pace and what makes sense for your career.
I think based on consistent great performance, between 1-2 years is reasonable.
I think about a year at the minimum
I got my promotion in just under a year. I think the important thing is showing your value and proving that you’re ready.
But create a work back plan! I started my development plan about 5-6 months before the promotion was actually put through!
It's a hard question for me, I think it depends on your relationship with your manager. I have been and seen many of us overlooked for promotions, and I don't have a clear answer. But the trend I see, its more about relationships then proving you are ready.

I too see this trend and its a set up for failure. The employee gets the new title and increased salary but to the detriment of the other team members who needed the person to have the knowledge they said they did.
