It is hard to earn 250-300 all in with 4 years of experience. I get certain Consulting firms and financial services do allow that.
So if you really want to work in tech it might make sense. Especially if you take the long view and can grow within whatever area. Startups generally want proven operators early (they go for the consultants a bit later stage).
If anything I’ve set my current comp goals higher than I otherwise would have so that if I ever exit to tech I can still land comfortably despite the dip.
250 is possible for 4YOE. I did something similar. MBB 250k+ to Google 240k but working about 1/3 the hours
What kind of work did you do at MBB?; strategy?
So. The scenario is lowering comp just to be in a higher level company?
Ahh. That’s different. If you’ll have more flexibility, then it’s something to consider.

Can’t eat prestige. Unless it’s a short term position and leads to high pay in a few years. Otherwise no way.
Most go to top tech companies to make more than that
Tech companies aren’t as competitive in finance roles it seems. Maybe I need to look at program manager for non tech
True. I’d rather have my secure comp than potential. Especially in this economy
Oh yeah, cash is king. Won’t be massive run hoa in equity like we saw before
Nope

Depend on your current place and your past company.
If you are an engineer at a local small company or WITCH or some other similar and getting into google, go for it.
Fwiw, even if you enter at less, you should hit that comp pretty quickly. Frankly, you should already be able to enter for that much at 4-5 YoE
Even in finance roles? Location specific to but 250 usually seems like 8-10 YoE
If you’re in SF Bay Area, you should be able to hit 250K-300K 5 years out of school if you entered Tech at 2 YoE.
Tech tends to down level, so a lot of people think that it’s better to come in after 2-4 years consulting + 2 years of MBA + 3 years post MBA (2 years Senior + 1 year Manager) but you’d enter as a manager with 6-8 YoE, meanwhile if you started in Tech you probably could have gotten to that level in 4-6 years.
