Bowl Leader
Completely depends on margin
People are selling 20% margin projects????
Quite variable from firm to firm. Probably the three biggest factors are margin, structure of the pyramid, and if managed revenue is a compensation component.
For example, a friend of mine is a partner at a midsize firm that is a pretty low-ish margin body shop. The majority of the partners at his firm are involved in delivery and managed revenue is a key compensation metric. Partners there get a slice of managed revenue, as well as a slice of booked sales.
His slice of the managed revenue for the ~120 people under him was around $550k several years ago. He booked about $14M in sales that year, too, and while I don't know what his slice of those sales came out to be, I know his total comp that year was over $1M.
How are partner shares decided ? Is it a industry or competency leader making that decision alone? Or is it similar to crt where there is a panel of vertical / competency leaders making that call
Partners have levels - though non partners generally don’t know or care . Partner comp is largely dependent on that level , which in turn is usually tenure based .
That said the general math is usually around 10M of business they bring in annually - but that is a meaningless number given the permutations . These are not commission based jobs like in transactional sales of software and hardware .
I would say depends on a lot of things including the size of the pyramid. From what I have seen it’s 10x to 20x
Thanks. So a company the size of KPMG depending on the service line, perhaps may have a lower expected sales goal to meet? Am I thinking it through right?
Surprised at these responses.
It’s not like you don’t still have to make your own personal numbers. Doing that PLUS being an MPP lead partner or running a network/service line/industry or both, or all three BETTER get paid more. And you don’t get those without some tenure. A good track record will get you opportunities for those roles. They aren’t going to some newbie, nor should they.
If you’re a partner, it’s presumed you can sell stuff. I like our model. You’re thinking about your contribution to the overall number versus just your own payout. A true partner versus a commissioned salesperson. And more impact.
