Your yearly reminder that if you’d bought the DJIA in 1929 you didn’t become profitable in real terms until 1955. It wasn’t just WW2. If you’d bought the DJIA at the beginning of 1966 you lost almost 75% to inflation over two decades and didn’t recover in real terms until 1995. You’d have made nothing between JFK’s death and Clinton’s second term. We are in a particularly weird period of “stonks only go up” but remember those 8% returns over the long run mask generation-defining risks.

Seeking to understand: I have a good friend who struggles with anxiety. Whil I try to be there for her and be understanding, sometimes it feels very one-sided. I went through a very rough health scare myself about a month ago and I realized she wasn’t really there for me and even when we talk, it’s mostly about her and what is stressing her out. I know she doesn’t mean to make it about her, but it does frustrate me. I don’t want to get resentful but im starting to. Any advice or perspective?
Thinking I want to get my mba. 3 YOE, haven’t taken gmat, started a new job in industry last month. Hot take: If you're trying to leave consulting, it's actually to better on the same client / industry / project for an extended period (1+ year). While you have to constantly and proactively reinventing yourself so you aren't working a dead end role, the sustained time will allow to build deeper skills and open doors for exits beyond the typical strategy / PM roles most consultants target.
