How soon can you expect an answer from an agency for next steps following an in-person interview?

Anywhere from a few hours after the interview to never.

If it’s been over a week, I would hit them up again just make sure. If they still don’t write back, consider yourself ghosted.

Probably. Some version of the real estate agent saying “I have two other people interested in this place” is going on. Hopefully all your eggs arent in that basket. Because it makes as much sense as dating—the best way to make them interested is to genuinely not care.

I am sorry I worded this poorly, I sent a thank you note to the person who interviewed me that was followed with by a “we will be in touch” reply. It’s the middle of November and hiring is pitiful on the West coast. It was a position that asked for 3+ years of experience, while I have 1.5 years of it. When they interviewed me they made it clear that I will be starting as a junior. Just the thought of being laid off last month and the current job market is giving me the heeby jeebies.

The agency I am speaking of is a small boutique shop. I interviewed with the founder last Tuesday when he told me he is supposed interview 9 more people for the same position, and are supposed to be reaching out by the end of the week. There’s been radio silence from both sides. Am I being ghosted?

Thank you to all those who helped me find an answer. I emailed the guy who interviewed with a follow-up, turns out they have refocused their efforts on hiring senior writers. They knew what they needed, but wanted to see what I brought to the table, and would like to consider me for the next junior position in the following quarter. Thankfully I had applied to more places and have been moved to the final round of interviews with each of those applications.
