How tough are you on your kids pertaining to their responsibilities? My principal thinks I don’t give some kids enough chances to complete missing work/redo poorly attempted assignments .

(Continued) I teach kids about to go to middle school, and I believe that if a kid shows no effort or doesn’t care to complete an assignment, it’s not my job to do the assignment for them, print them endless copies, or spend many of my prep times trying to force them to do it. I want them to be prepared for the next stage of life, and as they move up in school/get a job, they will not be treated with such leniency.

I give my students opportunities for extra credit throughout the school year. If they complete an assignment poorly, then they've earned a poor grade. I'm big on teaching: Every action has a reaction.

I am pretty tough but it’s so hard being “tough” in elementary school. Parents have complained if they are asked to miss recess or have a consequence. Trying to brainstorm alternative ways to help them because my 5th graders were so bad with turning in assignments!!

I teach 5th graders. Our campus policy is 1 chance to redo an assignment and 5 days to make up a late or missing assignment. After that, it is entered as a zero.

Find out what the middle school’s policy is and use that. You’ll have verifiable proof for your principal and it’ll prepare them for the following year.

I let them make work up until the end of the nine weeks but I no longer let them retake tests. I don’t have enough time to study with them in class all the time and I want them to get used to being as responsible for their grades as I am.

Confession: The only in-law that I had a great relationship with passed away unexpectedly. The two remaining in-laws were on thin ice with me prior due to years of drama, nagging, and disgusting display of wealth. I believe their demand of money and general assholish behavior drove in law to his death. I love my S.O. but I can’t deal with the drama anymore.

I want to have a family and a future that is drama-free and full of love and don’t want to surround myself with negativity.

Been having trouble moving on since girlfriend ended relationship 3 weeks ago after 2+ years of dating. Before ending it she came over 3 weeks prior to basically give me a chance to work things out and we had a good discussion but then I went back into our routine and didn’t really fight for it or have serious follow up convos that we needed. Now I just have so many regrets that I let her go. I know we still love each other and left on “good” terms but can’t forgive myself for my lack of action.

Last night I went over to my friends house (she has 2 kids, 2 and 4 yo). She and her husband were asking me about my pregnancy and planning. And were asking what I’ve prepped to date. I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes. My friend completely berated me, short of calling me a bad mom already, saying “what is she going to do all day? Don’t you want to bond with your child?”. I’m so upset by this.

For anyone in this bowl. How crucial is it for you to have a formal dining room separated from the kitchen? My son and daughter-in-law are buying a house for their future family and I'm trying to convince them a formal dining room looks better and makes things less chaotic in the kitchen, especially with kids. SIL and BIL told us excitedly last weekend that she was pregnant (had literally just found out, so barely four weeks). This week she tells us she’s not pregnant anymore :(. They did not seem super torn up about it and were very practical about it. We said how sorry we were, etc etc. should I do anything else? Should I not mention it again unless they do?
