How useful is PMP certification, both from a personal benefit POV and a “visibility” or “prestige/competence” POV? I am considering it because 1) I’m young (25) but a top performer. I feel like it’s a mitigation for me being perceived as “too young” to take on leadership roles. 2) I am naturally analytical so technical parts of the job come natural, but due to lack of formal education surrounding project mgt I think it would give me a useful foundation to lean on as I start to lead projects.

Technically, you need hours of management exp before you can take the PMP, but you can fake the exp.

like

PMP is probably important if you're building a housing development or an airplane, but a little bit of experience and a dash of common sense is probably more than enough for consulting engagements

like

I don't think its useful at all. No one is doing Waterfall anymore. Agile is the favored methodology

like

Unless you're going into Government or federal jobs, PMP isn't very useful. While there is an agile aspect that has been added to the updated cert, it doesn't mean much when most firms and teams have developed their own definitions and ways of project management.

Not such a thing as too young to take on leadership roles. Maybe too inexperienced

Sure. You’re right

Quick Question - Which one do you prefer?
1) Stay in the company where you are not liking the work culture (Skills not getting used & MicroManagement is poor) but offering Onsite and will try to match offer in hand package.
OR
2) Keep looking for a change to explore better opportunities (May be not onsite).

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
