PMP is very valuable because it shows you put a full weeks worth of work into something
Worth it! While the actual knowledge you gain when studying for the test is relatively useless, the “PMP” cert on my bio has quickly established my credibility at multiple clients. One note is that my previous employer paid for my initial test and study courses (~$1k) and my current employer covers the annual dues ($~150).
I don’t have it and am a program manager at Apple. I have thought about it, and it looks great on the resume. At the end of the day, it’s not required to get into FAANG. They mainly want experience. So it’s not make or break, but couldn’t hurt 🙂
Yeah I’m not quite sure about Canada tbh. The biggest part for me was getting in the door and then remaining in contact with the recruiter. The first role wasn’t for me, but then I kept in contact with her by reaching out every month for like 3 months. She ended up having 3 more roles. I got interviews with all 3, and ended up getting final rounds for all 3. The program management position had 6 YOE requirement, but she got me in the door with my 1 YOE and I got it.
At the end of the day, it comes down to the recruiters and the hiring managers. So do what you can with that info.
