They didn't ask for your opinion on the work. I would recommend Cornell's DEI for HR course. I would also recommend reading books like DEI deconstructed, caste, the Sum of us, the color of law and others to help give historical context on what you're on and why. My DEI budget went up 7 figures and we're hiring in our next fiscal year. Don't let the 4 News stories nor people who don't understand the work dissuade you from moving into the work you're interested in. I hear accounting is a dying field so avoid that.
Why? Companies are dumping their DEI employees left and right.
My sister works at a boutique DEI consulting firm and their entire staff is often saddened by the meaningful work everyone feels they are doing but it has so little impact for their clients. Their customers are large F500 companies but their executives are almost absent in partnering with these initiatives.
It’s a powerless feeling…
Dir, society / the world is at an all time low. We have been trained to only value the mighty dollar at the expense of everything we once held dear: family ties, sympathy, religion, education, even marriage. I’m praying we’ve hit the bottom.
It always comes back around so I’m interested as well, specifically any education recommendations even if there’s no career path in the current climate
Don't do it. The landscape is changing. DEI is going away in alot of companies .
It's more important to have core transformation skills with some understanding of implementing DEI in change management than it is to specialize in DEI. DEI is scaling back or failing in many places because DEI practitioners don't understand their business stakeholders or are poorly equipped personally and institutionally to drive change.
