I am a 31 year old male who's never directly looked for responsibility and only accepting responsibility when it was thrust upon me, like being the oldest child when my mother died and making life changing decisions . Recently it was suggested/encouraged by my team lead that I should apply to a team lead position at another site. I decided that it was time that see myself the way others see me. Capable, understanding, a problem solver etc. My question is, how do I be an effective leader?

There is a book called "Extreme Ownership." It was written by a couple of retired Navy SEALs, and goes over leadership principals that they learned through deployments, illustrated by their experience, and then applied to leadership roles. It covers things like telling your subordinates why you are giving them specific instructions, and how their actions contribute to the overall mission, rather than it being "because I said so." It is quite good, and I recommend it if you seriously want to lead well.

Another principal is there are no bad teams, just bad leaders. No pressure.

I had many experiences that showed that you should accept leadership when it s asked and never ask for it. If you ask for it meaning you may not be ready yet...not being cryptic here just my opinion

Servant leadership, which can be defined as enabling those you supervise to perform at their peak level.

⚠️Toxicity Alert ⚠️

My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.

So, recently got put on a PIP after six months at my new job., two days after I told my boss and HR I recently learned I have a cognitive disability caused by an illness. The PIP was mostly because I forgot some deadlines, but also they said I need to be more professional in emails (even though others use zero punctuation and a lot of emojis. To clients.) and simultaneously ask more questions and ask fewer questions. Should I just assume this is unattainable and look for a new job again?

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
