Lead by example. Lead from the front, not from a position above.
Be willing to work, but trust your guys to do their work, don’t micromanage, do your job, support your employees, and pick up slack beneath you when needed - lead from the front
Know the rank above yours responsibilities. Know your rank’s responsibilities. Know the rank below yours responsibilities. Lead by example. Be available and don’t forget where you came from.
There is a book called "Extreme Ownership." It was written by a couple of retired Navy SEALs, and goes over leadership principals that they learned through deployments, illustrated by their experience, and then applied to leadership roles. It covers things like telling your subordinates why you are giving them specific instructions, and how their actions contribute to the overall mission, rather than it being "because I said so." It is quite good, and I recommend it if you seriously want to lead well.
Another principal is there are no bad teams, just bad leaders. No pressure.
I had many experiences that showed that you should accept leadership when it s asked and never ask for it. If you ask for it meaning you may not be ready yet...not being cryptic here just my opinion
