I am a junior looking for work, and I've been so shocked how hard it is to make connections with other attorneys in the Black community. I have always been eager to help/speak with juniors below me. However, "not all your skinfolk is kinfolk" has been real in my experiences unfortunately. I'm even getting ignored by DEI professionals at firms. I know that no one owes me anything, but it is shocking that I have white men do backflips for me while other black women ignore me. Just saying.

How do you handle people’s kids showing up on video meetings? Screaming, kicking, hamming it up, (wasting time.) Everyone else is coo-ing…I’m not a kids person. Heard a technique which is to drop off the call bc you “assume the call is over” (which seems like a great way to get fired especially if it’s a way higher up’s kids - plus it feels rather passive aggressive.) Been for a company for over 2years. The executive team is very much a boy's club. There are a few women in management roles but zero ethnicity diversity there. I raised my concern to HR in feb. And they are just now deciding to do something about it. They want me (white female) to put together a diversity committee. Any suggestions on how to go about it? How to attract volunteers to the committee? I want to make sure I get the right people involved in this, to push for changes.

I think there should be more males caretakers in this world. Some of my clients just feel more comfortable with a guy and it's kind of sad how often they say I'm the only male they could find.
