I am a new joiner from industry, just started in MBB. Why is everybody so intense? Everyone is on keeno or hardo mode at all times. Everyone at my old job (a place known for its intense work environment) worked really hard too, but we did less verbal opining about the problem and more fixing. Is this a universal consulting thing? How can I come across as more intense? My calm attitude is sometimes mistaken for lack of care.

Am I particularly uptight, or is writing meant to be done alone, without a partner talking to you? With past partners, we chat through script notes and then I go off to execute. Current partner likes to sit and chat as I write. To me, writing is crafting a conversation. So I can’t talk to you and simultaneously talk to this audience. Of course I can just say “I’m gonna go write.” But since we’re both CD level, I’m like…is this his first rodeo? Maybe other writers are different though.

Hello! I've been struggling the last few weeks because someone on my team has been taking credit for my work. This coworker is really good with buzzwords and getting the attention of upper management. I'm feeling discouraged - what should I do?

I think there should be more males caretakers in this world. Some of my clients just feel more comfortable with a guy and it's kind of sad how often they say I'm the only male they could find.

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

I’ve been working for a small investment firm for about a year and am having some issues with my boss. We have a weekly check-in but he’s ALWAYS 2-3 hours late, or skips the meeting altogether without warning. He also never replies to any of the emails I send. I already spoke with him about these issues, but things haven’t really changed. I really like the work I do but I’m starting to feel frustrated about the situation. Any advice? Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.
