If you are away from the office for a long time, just put on your resume that you were freelance. And increase your title to Design Director. You’ll be OK.
Also, you can bend your resume all you want. The only legally-binding form is the literal job application.
I hate that you feel this way in 2022. I hope your boss reacts positively (like they should). And for what it’s worth, all the designers / art directors that I’ve known with young kids have been amazing through the whole journey.
I’m hoping for the same. I imagine it will go better than my worries. But it’s very comforting knowing that all the designers/AD parents you’ve known have been nailing it!
I've had multiple employees go out for maternity leave. Not going to pretend like it wasn't kind of a pain to manage around, but i never held it against them, and everything eventually works out fine. It's part of life, and kids are awesome. Your boss should be happy for you. If they react negatively it's a sign that either they're kind of a jerk or the culture at your agency is not good. Both are red flags to keep in mind for when your mat leave is over.
This is honestly great to hear. I figured maternity leave is hard to manage, but I’m glad to hear it was never personal. And my boss’s reaction, while out of my control, will be great information for me to consider post maternity leave! Thank you for this
Work ethic?!?! You’re pregnant. Live in this moment. Work can wait, when you’re a mother, a grandmother. Working in this moment will have no significance.
All else aside. Congratulations!! 🎉
I love this take. And thank you 🤍
First off, congrats. The reality is, it’s going to impact your career for a few years but you’re not going to give a shit because you’re going to be taking care of a baby.
The only people who will Judge your work at ethic are people in their 20s with no idea what real responsibility is and those people have no power.
Sorry, but have you had your headphones on for a while? There are SOOOO many protections legally for you now,,,,
Oh I know that I have some legal protections surrounding this, but unfortunately this industry is still pretty male dominating. It’s taken me a lot of work to get where I am now and it’s just scary to think about this massive change that is coming. I’m looking forward to this next chapter, don’t get me wrong. But I just wonder if men feel this same level of fear for their careers when their partners are expecting.
