I am shadowing someone and they are doing things very wrong. Do I say something? I don’t want to be associated with it, but also don’t want to seem I’m not wanting to work with the person.

So one thing you can do is reframe what you think is “wrong”. Just for fun, assume you don’t have the full picture and you want them to give you full context to help you better understand.

“I see you think 1 plus 1 equals 3 but every time I do it my math shows 2. What am I missing? Is there a hidden number here?

And if they’re still wrong at least you know nothing has been missed and they’re a full idiot.

This is as good as it’s going to get without specifics but I always challenge assumptions before I go in with any clear judgment of what’s right or wrong. Unless your dealing with clear issues of inequality or illegal activity.

Just spent some time in Chicago for work and I love it. What is the main type of PR done there (media or other)? How is work culture, meeting people, dating scene? I’m in NY now

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.

I'm really struggling for how to respond. If I were not leaving it is absolutely a meeting I should be at. I don't want to respond with a lie. Any dvice on how to respond?

How do you deal with Impostor’s Syndrome and insecurity? I recently joined an agency as ACD, and sometimes I feel like I am not as good as my team… My teammates are so intelligent and quick. Also, feeling like I have to prove myself to earn their respect stresses me a lot. Sometimes I rather don’t talk, which I know isn’t helpful. Any advice on how to boost my confidence and show them that I deserve a space there?

I am only 4 months into being a surgical coordinator. I love the position itself however I am struggling to adapt into my new work environment. My position puts me in a place where I need to interact with my new coworkers but they are not as welcoming as I expected. There is also another surgical coordinator however I have come to find from other staff that there is a long history of her running other staff away and not fully training other surgical coordinator staff properly. Any suggestions?

I have four girls in my class that talk to each other NON STOP! It is so disrespectful! They talk right over me and even begin talking again before I even finish my sentence asking them to stop! Help!

Anyone deal with this before: I inherited a severely under developed team including a sr analyst who clearly was doing the bare minimum, if that. Over the last 6 months I have had to coach him and correct simple mistakes in his work and recently it got so bad that I told him he would receive a low rating in his evaluation. He lashed out, involved HR saying he doesn’t understand why, and now my review points out stuff that I would have let slide.

Getting really frustrated with a boss that is completely bipolar in our interactions. Management does not seem willing to tell them to stop being psycho. Beginning to think the only way out is out

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

A certain SVP is spamming the bowl about “Trump dues”. If you feel that this is a) clever b) funny c) contributes to the discussion at hand d) any combination of the above, you’d be wrong. A quick search shows at least 12 mentions of “Trump dues” by SVP in the last two hours.

P.s. I don’t know what industry SVP works in, but it sure isn’t finance or accounting because he doesn’t seem to understand the concept that large term loans can be (and usually are) settled by the issuance of a new loan.
