I do FS audit and to be honest I hate the thought of just working my way up a PE shops internal accounting. Are there people who switch to corporate accounting at like Tech/manufacturing//construction/retail and actually like their job and what they’re doing? Can ppl make the jump to a lower level Financial analyst type role at one of these companies? I’m talking lower level, like I make 77k even taking s lay cut to 75k to pivot my job trajectory. Idk just thinking, lmk experiences please.

I was FS audit. Probably only about 1/3rd of the people I worked with took the PE Accounting exit route. If that’s not what you want just tailor your resume/LinkedIn accordingly. I’d say another 1/3rd of us went consulting/advisory/FDD and the last third mostly left to become financial analysts or internal audit for energy, tech, insurance or manufacturing companies

^this. I transitioned to an accounting role at a high tech trading firm. pretty dope and everyone else I know transitioned to consulting or TAS.

I understand your question, and yes you can absolutely make that jump. At the end of the day you have a CPA and an accounting degree. You can switch industries at that level fairly easily. Just need to spin your experience, ability to learn quickly, research things you don’t know, etc.

A little confused on your question. Are you asking if people can go from external audit to accounting at a corporation? Why is your default option working for a PE shops internal accounting?

Mostly asking if ppl who do corporate accounting in industries outside of FS like their job, bc i don’t see how FS corporate accounting could be for me

What sparked this is that my fiancé started an online apparel company and has been doing pretty well, I did the books and ran some analytics for her to help her out and I acfually enjoyed working with tangible things

I think OP mean FS = Financial Sevices as opposed to Financial Statements. That's why they're concerned about being pigeonholed into PE exit opportunities.

For anyone who’s taken / passed the CFE, is it worth paying for the full exam prep course or would studying the fraud examiners manual suffice?

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?

I am surprised and concerned about the fact that a lot of my colleagues do not have good excel skills. I literally had to show someone higher rank than me probably 30ish, how to do a “find” in excel for the workbook. This isn’t limited to people who have been out of school for awhile. This also includes new hires and staff, and seniors. Partners forget about it. They probably aren’t involved at all in building out the work paperwork but I feel staff, seniors and managers should be good users
