I feel like a failure because all my friends got into MBB and I’m stuck in a T2/T3 firm (Monitor)…. I’m a top performer who’s being fast tracked, but I keep getting anxious every time I interview

You’ll be much happier if you stop comparing yourself to others, especially for something as silly as firm prestige

like

Yup — it destroyed my relationship with my ex — she was at a top performer at a T2 and could never get the feeling of inferiority out of her head. Get out of this mentality while you can; no one wins.

Monitor is basically the same as MBB very minimal difference

funnylike

Never shat on them, if anything I said we have great people. My issue is more about the consistency and willingness to win bigger better projects and attract better people… constantly arguing with people in leadership about attracting MBA candidates sucks

In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. The difference between MBB and Monitor isn’t so large that it can’t be bridged and overcome through deliberate effort and excellent work, especially if you’re acing it as you say. For example you can create equal chances of being at the same place as or in better places than your MBB friends in 5-10-20 years time; lots of people from Monitor will exit into better exits than MBB folk will, and many won’t. It’s down to you which camp you fall in — comparing like this won’t help you.

Jeez, starting to think these posts are being generated by the MBB propaganda machine.

If it’s real, wake up and smell the flowers. And find friends who aren’t in consulting.

like

All of your friends are at MBB? Why are all of your friends consultants?

I’d love to be at monitor if that makes you feel better

like

No one outside of consulting knows or cares about MBB

Lmao I’m not in consulting anymore buddy boy. I have a great exit opp into industry. But go off kid and have fun with making pretty shapes on slide decks

if it helps you feel better Monitor doesn't exist (in the US anyways)

like

Yes it does. We just don’t brand it as heavily.

Nah

Ok but if you are rapidly progressing here then who cares

Two words: uber. Eats.

What exactly do you think would be different? You’re still getting the interviews. Do you think you’d skip the interview process or something coming from mbb? Red carpet straight to the c suite?

I have been giving interview from last 2 months and yet I haven't got a single offer and people here are getting multiple offers. Even if interview goes nice, I would get rejection mail.

I guess Luck matters a lot even if you perform well. There would be always someone who will do better than you.

I am getting demotivated, but have to continue trying hard.

I really wish luck could be on my side.

Had an interview today, for RN OnCall position. This is an extremely difficult position, but I bring not only a preference to work the hours they need but the experience and credentials to qualify for the upper range of the salary (RN, MSN, CHPN, 5 years hospice experience). I asked for the range and he gave the range then immediately stated that I would qualify for mid range. My goal is to find a similar position to the one I’m working now and add 20-30% to my income, the high range would meet

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…
