I feel like a lot of the discourse about pharmacists lately ignores that we are often just as informed or even more informed about the drugs physicians are handing out than they are. When it comes to the effects of medication we are without a doubt the best informed, period. Why is there this stigma that we want to prevent people from getting what they need?

it’s the insurance companies that decide what medications a patient will get!!! the pharmacist is just the messenger!!! patients need to be more active in advocating for their own health!! get your elected officials involved. your healthcare team is highly qualified to treat you for the best outcome!!
insurance companies need to spend more on your health than on salaries and bonuses

This. Patient advocacy is something I recommend whenever I've got someone dealing with an insurance issue like this. I just wish they understood it wasn't our call.🤦🏻‍♀️

Agreed!

I think people misunderstand insurance issues and clinical problems as “you don’t want to give it to me”. And I don’t know how to change that perception.

like

I never understood that from patients ..like we’re here to sell you medications, why wouldn’t we want to??

like

I agree. It's always been odd to me that pharmacists are considered less informed than physicians when we spend probably twice the amount of time studying medication itself. It's frustrating people don't even know how much school it takes.

like

Glad somebody brought this up! You couldn't have said this any better. I feel validated. Thank you!

I think it depends on where you work and the demographics of the area. Where I work now, most people respect us and feel comfortable coming to us with questions about medications (and all kinds of other things, but that's a whole different story). I've also worked at some pharmacies where we were treated like total garbage.

Started going to therapy early 2020 and had a few sessions where I really felt like I made a breakthrough and left feeling like I was on cloud 9 after every session. I stopped going (it was the through school and I graduated/covid happened) but recently started again with a new therapist. I am not feeling that “breakthrough” feeling after any of our sessions and see it as more of a burden than helpful - is this a sign that maybe this therapist isn’t for me?
