Hi all. I am trying to determine if I am being compensated fairly. I am a tax manager (about to start my second year as manager) and have been with EY since staff 1. I was promoted to manager in June 2020 (during covid) and received a 7.5% raise. The class above me has mentioned they received much higher raises during their promotion years. My base salary is now approx. 97K. Any insights would be extremely helpful. Thanks!
When is a 3 page resume acceptable?

Congratulations on the CPA! That’s a major accomplishment. And you don’t need to lose fast just lose so that you don’t regain which may take time.
Congrats on the cpa!! For weight loss, try Optavia or Noom. Both programs not only help you lose weight but they help you integrate new healthy habits into your life. Good luck!
Be careful with Noom, they put everyone on the very low calorie counts. If you lose too fast, you will gain it back and more. Use a TDEE calculator and adjust your budget in the Noom app. Also be mindful of the color system. If you do those things, it will be much safer and more effective.
Uhhh bro just stop doing whatever it is you started doing during COVID… go back to your old habits and you’ll hang around the same weight eventually
Not sure what kind of activity before / during COVID regarding activity levels and diet, but my recommendation would be to make small incremental changes over to increase exercise (time or intensity) and (if health allows) scale back on calories at the same time. The latter would be the most important, but could be something as simple as eating slightly smaller portion sizes throughout the day - also do your best to limit indulgences that may have crept in a bit more during the pandemic. You can still have them, but I think everyone had more than they usually would, all things considered. “Crash dieting” does work in the short term, but is not an effective means in the long term or healthy.
VSG - my SO did it, lost 75lbs and has kept it off for 3 years.
Weight loss = consuming less calories than you burn. LWEP.com has a good beginners guide to losing weight. Not affiliated but it’s a Facebook group for losing weight by counting calories. I also recommend adding activity in, whether it’s lifting/walking/running/whatever else makes you happy.
You should try Noom! It’s a coaching app that educates you on little steps to lose wait. It gradually increases goals as you use it. For example, day 1 goal is to get like 500 steps, then gradually goes up to 1000 steps and so on. I found it super useful since I wasn’t raised in a healthy household and it taught me the basics
If this was me, I'd start with meal prepping/ portioning healthy meals for the week. That way you don't have to cook or make decisions on what to eat, and it's easier to choose the healthy option when it's already there when you're hungry. Changing your diet will shake the initial pounds, and hopefully make the exercise less painful to start.
Also, any changes are better than no changes. You could start with very very simple exercise goals (walk to the mailbox everyday, walk to the corner and back) to get basic movement back before working up to longer walks and other exercises.
Start by fasting. Eat breakfast and then nothing until lunch the next day. Do this 1x/week. You will start shredding lbs.
Do that for 1-2 months and also try walk at least 1 mile per day.
Also cut out bread/cheese/beer/ice cream/etc.
SSM - not if you’re consistent which is 🔑! Been doing it for 6+ months and never been in better shape
Eliminate dairy and play a sport that you like so you exercise but don’t feel the going-to-the-gym-dread.
I would talk to a professional. I think a trainer could really benefit you here to get you committed and dialed in.
Best of luck!
Congrats on the CPA!! I think once back in the office old habits will return and a lot of the weight will just come off naturally. For example, not a lot of food places or even snacks in my office now. Then there’s extra walking from the work commute. I wouldn’t worry about it - everyone is going to get that COVID has messed the heck up out of peoples past schedules. I’d say just carve out in the sand you time to do what you got to do. Just pitch it bluntly even and say with this COVID thing over you need to get your health back to where it started then exercise between 7pm - 8pm.
What’s a typical day of eating look like?
Uber eats
As someone who put on about 30lbs during COVID, my recommendation is to get moving and stick to a nutritional plan. That could mean just walking 3-4 miles a day, tracking your steps on your phone. Personally, I started with that and then finally started hitting an interactive gym to get motivated. Try one with classes that does just functional strength training, I feel like they do a good job of getting you moving again and just feeling better overall.
Gym and cut back on the calories
Step 1: but an oculus and try out some of the workout apps.
Step 2: look into InstantPot recipes that are high in veggies and protein, but lower in carbs.
Movement and cutting out ordering out the weight will fall off.
