Your experience does not equate to customer service, and just as importantly, customer service is only a small part of sales.
Unless you know the hiring manager, who is willing to take a chance on you, they will want to see that you have a number of years of direct experience, and more importantly that you have consistently attained quota over extended periods of time.
I am not saying that you don't have what it takes to be a successful seller, I am just sharing my experience with trying to get a job in sales.
I appreciate your candor and answer. Just a bit of clowning on my part. I do have a bit of success in the automotive sales arena for 7 years now. That’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
Honestly, if you could articulate it during the interview I would. That will be the key. Explaining how you dealt with an infinite spectrum of personalities, high pressure, trying to get the best outcome. I totally think it applies but on you to lay that out.
My first sales job was selling Hondas. Sold 20 in the first month. Went on to win Salesperson of the month virtually 2 of every 3 months there for the next 3 1/2 years. Another salesperson asked how did I do it. I told him, honesty and humbleness. He stated the fact that I was an older man, it must be because of my life experiences being able to relate to various people.

Absolutely. Building trust, staying calm under pressure, reading people, and communicating clearly are all transferable skills. The environment may be different, but many of the core skills are the same.
