Referral is very unlikely from one phone call. Do not make this an interview or a transaction.
I would ask intelligent questions and try to build a relationship. If the conversation is going well, ask them if they would be okay reviewing your application to their Firm and providing some feedback.
If they are willing to do so, ask for time to reconnect with them in the near future. During the second call, respond to their feedback positively and humbly, and - if in a position to do so - request if they would be willing to refer / connect you to a recruiter.
If the conversation goes well, this will be organic.

I mean our application is basically just the resume and test scores and that’s it if memory serves me correct.

Go into the call to build a relationship. Most partners will not hand out referrals like candy so you'll need to get to know each other. Also make sure that you can subtly get across two critical points:
1. Why you want MBB over Deloitte.
2. Why you are qualified for MBB (what will you add that the thousands of other Deloitte consultants that want to be at MBB can't?)
Great advice.
Ensure that the answers speak more to what you’re seeking rather than what you’re hoping to run away from.
Specifically, the answers should speak positively to what you’re hoping to find at MBB and not explicitly put down Deloitte.

Yeah the biggest turn off when doing one of these calls is it being totally evident that you’re just in the call to get a referral. If there’s a true relationship that develops then ok, but don’t be completely transactional.
