I have a CFP question. I’m thinking of getting mine and I read online about all the required course work and capstone course before you can sit for the test. But I keep reading posts (more inside)

The study and pass in 60 days is just referring to the review. You have to do the course work first.

like

I did it in 4 months. Using Kaplan you spend a week or two for each of the 6 coursework sections skimming through then spend 6 weeks and really work hard on the review. Passed first try working full time in the middle of dol madness. Those were some 14 hour days and full day every Saturday

like

MBA doesn’t let you challenge the coursework requirement, unlike CPA and CFA. You have to fulfill the coursework and sit for the exam, my friend.

Took me 18 months start to finish. I may be slow compare to some smart people.

That say “study and pass in 60 days”. So what are the actual requirements and what’s the fastest way to study/obtain the designation? I have 7 years exp and and MBA for qualifying

Fastest I’ve seen for coursework is 9 months on an accelerated program; Dalton Education is who I am going through.

I did it in 6mo
If you have 7 yr of experience than that Mba is probably near worthless at this point. All the stuff you learned that would have helped you you haven’t used in 7 years now and will need to relearn

7 months for me. It is worth it however long it takes you if you plan on being in the business for a while

I’ve been in the industry for 23+ years, 16+ of those spent as a Producing Branch Manager. I hold S7, S63, S66, S24 and I’ve completed the education for the CFP (need to pass the exam). I excel in relationship building and providing exceptional service. I’ve only been on the full-service side for the past 2 years and my book of managed money is about $10M, with another $10M+ being self-directed by clients. I’d love to find an RIA job, what type of role would be suggested?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Any recommendations on prep courses for CFP exam? Taking the exam in March

I’m a CFP® and work as a test engineer for financial planning software. I’m pretty new to the tech space, and wondering what jobs might be out there in the fintech space as I gain more software knowledge. It’s kind of niche working in financial planning software as my background is financial planning. What kind of jobs are out there that might translate well and would have good earning potential?

Just started a new job and after doing some research found out they do not offer a Roth 401k. My choices are limited to a traditional 401k or After-Tax Contributions. After speaking with a friend who’s a CFP, he suggested I contribute only to the After-Tax, but I wanted to validate that advice here. If it helps I’m 24 and my current base is around 110k. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

I’m currently looking to build a career within the ESG consulting and strategy space. I am in a career transition phase and have a tax consultancy background from a Big 4 for 5+ years. However, I believe I have gained some skills that are transferable to ace at ESG consulting as well.
