If anything is coming at IBM, it’d be a big layoff!!
PWC 1, not helpful. D1, thank you, I appreciate your thorough insight and I think I’m on your side of the fence
If you don't think you're ready for it don't take it. You'll feel excited and your gut will tell you when it's a good opportunity. Having said that, do make a practical assessment of the situation- how are the upcoming opportunities compared to your new position? How realistic are those upcoming opportunities and what timeframe? And how satisfied are you in your current role.
I turned down an offer with 20% hike because I didn't think it was right role or enough money to move. Plus also thought about upcoming opportunities. Glad I stuck around.
I have seen 3 people in your situation. All 3 stayed, 2 were sorely disappointed.
People will typically default to remain the same over change if they can subconsciously weight both paths equal (reward now with change<=reward later with remaining same)
The 2 people that were disappointed got put into higher roles, but did not get banded up and did not get a pay increase. Their manager told them that their new positions were a 'stretch' and they had to perform, in role, for a year before band/pay raise could be considered. One had offers to other companies but was optimistic about IBM opportunities. The other had been looking for and been given 2 offers for other projects in IBM, one in a division outside of GBS, he turned them down because of the promises of the promotion.
I will say the 1 guy that was not disappointed got a band up, 8.5% raise, and did not even change job responsibilities.
Fingers crossed for you. IBM is good to a select and random few. May the odds be ever in you favor ✌
It depends how interesting the opportunity. IBM is in most parts a sinking ship ...so you need to consider that as well..
I was at the same situation, and IBM was willing to make a counter offer ...but I didn’t take a chance and left . The culture is way too bad , and the people moral is extremely low. Hard to believe anything will change in short term , after all the transformation buzz words already used extensively and things just became worse
You will be surprise that IBM base salaries are much higher than big 4 , but job security sucks
Agree with IBM1 IBM base pay - we buy people, end of story. Culture depends on practice but it’s a shit show right now anywhere (internally)
If we got decent bonuses.. (10-15%) it wouldn’t even be comparable
The best opportunity one can get at IBM is probably laid off with good severance
While you are at ibm you will always believe something big is coming. The problem is that the “big” is an RA.
