You’re in the business of communication and you don’t like communicating? 🤔
Yeah because that’s what I said :)
Get a new partner, partner
My best AD was very different to me, but we still talked and/or argued through everything. That’s why you have them.
Find a way to connect, because I promise it will make your work better.
Being on the same wavelength is great for providing feedback on edits and stuff. But yeah someone who’s got a different view can broaden the way you both look at a brief. It can mean completely different ideas that can come together to be totally awesome. Partnerships don’t always happen right away, so go out for beers or coffee or do something stupid like mini golf (...you know, once you can) and try to bond. If you’re still struggling after that it MIGHT be the match.
I didn’t find the wavelength thing until I was a senior. A lot of it has to do with experience; only some of it is personalities.
Yeah try switching partners, way better to be with someone you at least semi-vibe with
I had this issue. My partner and I were each others firsts and we had a rough time for a while. We were together for about 3 years, too. You gotta learn how to fight fair and have fun. It’s an arrangement instead of an organic relationship, which is really hard, but try to see if you can get something out of working with someone who’s very different than you.
You might never be best friends, and that’s ok. But you might be able to learn something from each other.
